02:37 pm - Wonka's Night Out and CONvergence
Y'all, we had an amazing time! Thank you, thank you to everyone that stopped by to see us (even if I pressed them into working - sorry, sil!) We'll definitely be back next year.
I took over 80 pictures this weekend, so if you really want to see them all, they're at Wonka's Night Out 2006. That's an awful lot of traffic for a Geocities site to handle, so if it's down when you try to look at it, just check back again after the hour.
Here's a few of my favorites, though.

07:23 am - Thanks
Thank you, everyone, that urged me to go back to Supercon this year (lookin' at you, arthos). I had a wonderful time, and I really felt like you all welcomed me back with open arms. Thank you, everyone, that told me (over and over again!) that I was being silly to think that you would hate me because of the divorce. I had a great, great weekend.
(And what pictures I took are over on my blog - arianrose.blogspot.com)

10:02 am - Wow
Wow ... 6 months.
Any road, I'm still alive, if anyone else is still around. I'm just not using LJ anymore. I can't access LJ at work, but I can access Blogger. So if any of you feel the pressing urge to keep up with my life (knitting, school, work. That's about it.) you can find me at my new home:

11:11 am - Land of the Jobless no more!
Yay! Okay, okay. I need to back up...
A week ago I decided I just couldn't handle my job anymore, and quit. Yeah, without notice. The company sucks, and I only have a teeny amount of guilt to deal with about it. I called up Apple One, which is a temp agency that I'd registered with, but never actually worked for. They talked to me about a number of things.
*back to present*
That phone call? That was Apple One. :) Calling me with an offer from the place I interviewed with, starting Monday. So. A little over a week from initial looking to interview to offer. I like this agency.

05:17 am - IIIIIEEEEEEEE!
(That was an excited screech.)
Book 11 of Wheel of Time, "Knife of Dreams" will be released October 11. That's in theory, of course, because Tor's release dates on WoT consistantly suck, but, but...
Book 11!!! And the prologue is already available in the paperback copy of "New Spring." I have the hardcover...do I buy the paperback just to read it?

07:21 am - Almost...
I'm almost, almost ready to start the Circe novel. Finally. I only have a tiny bit more research to do on Ramses II, and then I'm ready...
Or not. I know the entire middle part. I could write that right now. I know the ending, which is an essential thing for me before I begin. I don't have a title, which is a bit worrisome, since I've always been able to come up with titles before. I'm thinking "Daughter of the Waves" right now, since Circe is the daughter of Helios and Perseis (a sea-nymph), but I'm not completely wedded to the idea.
And I have no idea how to begin. Well, that's not strictly true. This is what it says in my loose outline:
1 - Aeetes finds Circe playing with poisonous plants (again), asks Perseis what to do with Circe, but receives no answers. Takes Circe to the temple of Artemis. Circe enters service, takes vow of chastity.
But I have no idea how to actually write that part. And, truth be told, I'm not too thrilled about it. I want to get to the interesting bits, like the Exodus from Egypt, and the Odyssey. *sigh*
And Amy's going to want a chapter or two to read on Wednesday...
06:45 am - Oh my god. I'm....cool?
Great article at City Pages about feminism and knitting. While I'm not exactly a huge feminist, I really enjoyed what it had to say about reclaiming the ability to be female - and feminine - without shame.
"There's guilt and conflict inherent in being a modern girl--how does one attain gender equality without devaluing the skills our mothers and grandmothers cultivated? If being successful means devoting oneself solely to "man's work," then what does that say about women?"

04:36 pm - FO: "The Force" Socks
You know that one lonely sock I knit? It's officially a pair now. Yay!
EWT calls them "The Force" socks, because I have a light side and a dark side. I learned my lesson about not checking dye lots before I start a project.
They were fun to make, though, and I've already started on another pair of socks. I think I'm addicted...
